Permissiveness for adults emerging and the implications for adolescent sexual
Introduction
Searching for information is growing and the importance of media as information providers and suppliers to large populations can not not be overestimated. The media are recognized as a powerful tool that is indispensable and able to show objective and balanced information that can form the opinion public and strengthen the structural changes in human behavior. However, their functions are more disturbing and little-known especially in the area of sexuality. There now raging controversy surrounding the way sexuality is portrayed in the media about how the media tend to reinforce stereotypes and coverage sexual issues (Tiemoko, 2006. p.6-10) and measurement of religious silence on these media activities.
Today, a journal can be considered incomplete without a scantily clad girl or the presentation of the numbers of sex (Suzanne, et al (2006). preponderance of attractive sexual scenes information entertainment becomes special called fear and concern at this time that most young people are the closest to the media, especially media such as visual (television, video, etc). The effects of the consequences of uncontrolled immigration and illegal without sex education behavior such as HIV / AIDS, unwanted or unintended pregnancies, school dropouts, the unemployment, poverty, crime and, in general, economic development can not be overestimated. Thus, the need for a proper assessment to identify and filter out the wrong information and information sources on the lives of these teens that are supposed to be the future leaders of our society.
Regulation of sexual behavior to be the general concern of many religious groups at all times and all contexts. But the degree to which a religious group can control the behavior of the sex of their congregation or society depends on whether religion is the world of rejection in response to the prevalence of social values or has been made indicating global (Eye, 2007). The part where religion belongs determines the point of view of sexuality and responsiveness to society where it operates.
While some evangelical groups have succeeded in the approach of conservative sexual behavior, many have been away from traditional religious conservatism. The Oneida community in New York in the middle of the eighteenth century, he practiced free love and women with a common structure of a single family and practice the Mormons a form of polygamy, which encourages the link to fill the world with pious children (Foster, 1994). Emmanuel also Odumosu, the Jesus of the series at Oyingbo Maryland, Lagos is another example of the sexual privileges possession of female members and women. A number of initiatives promoting sexual freedom in Christianity today, with yet unknown effects on a new generation of teenagers among whom are the new world of the recent ordination of homosexuals to homosexuals as priests and bishops in the Anglican section. All these are pointers to sexual freedom is allowed by the Church. The way in which allows religious groups of Christianity in particular, it says nothing about adult entertainment and all its associated factor influencing sexuality raises questions about moral responsibility of the churches in sexual and the question of new perspectives of the company responsible sex.
According to Monroy de Velasco (1982) developing countries have more than a billion of adolescents who are physically-age race, but they are too young to be responsible for the health of children of healthy parents (Monroy de Velasco, 1982). This statement can not ignore the lack of vital information on households and persons sexuality unrestrained access young people most scenes censored. uninformed children especially in areas procreativity could lead to irresponsible parents adult material adverse effect on their sisters and brothers and the circle can continue if nothing is done to save the situation. Thus, this research has been created to break the cycle of misinformation and misconceptions about entertainment for adults in our society.
The globalization of Western culture, but with a positive trend in economic development has generated by the infiltration of this tissue culture system in Nigeria, with a predominance visible (Rodney, 1976). This is more pronounced in certain lifestyles, such as dressing, talk, work ethic, the way of entertainment and views on sexuality. A source of entertainment for adults is Swivel and propelled by the media. Fun for adults includes all activities where women mainly in sexual acts for payment that included all sex shows, live sex – tower and dance tube, sports bars, strippers, sauna (with supplements), prostitution. It also includes "The pay-per-view access to the Internet and TV / DVD lines pornography, phone sex, sex shops, etc (YWCA, 2006). Nothing is gained by saying that these activities have been introduced in the Nigerian society and remained until expiration date, among other things, the desire for Westernization.
In all areas of life, sexuality is seen as vital and indispensable especially in the religious field, which traditionally meant to be a blessing to express love and life and production for the company and mutual pleasure but also for full of abuse, exploitation, abuse and suffering (RAND Health, 2007). This means that issues of sexuality have wisdom must begin to develop from childhood. To the extent that it is vital for young people to express their sexuality, is also essential sources of such information should be impartial, free of misunderstandings and strict supervision by older people as parents. Thus, this study has been carried out to examine the effect of adult entertainment to assess their level of contamination and their potential size in terms of influencing adolescent sexual behavior.
verifiable propositions have been raised about whether adult entertainment has a detrimental effect on young adolescent sexuality, to confirm the style of the parents in Nigeria as an incentive for access to obscene material and to test whether sex education can serve as a substitute for adult entertainment in the sexual life of adolescents.
It has been a priori that the study will help provide a solution to the opposite sex and inappropriate information caused by exposure to adult entertainment for young adolescents. It is conceivable that the entertainment adult implant false ideas about sexuality in young people and lead to incorrect and inappropriate expression of these sexual activities that can lead to inadvertent crimes unimaginable as teenage parenting, abortion, rape, masturbation, exhibitionism, voyeurism, to name a few. This pilot study, however, lay basis for a broader study of the generalizations that can be done
Literature review
Adolescence and sexual development
As Dehart, Sroufe & Cooper (2004) adolescence can be considered as a second revolution in human development, first appearing during the infants, when a child is born a baby. During adolescence, a child becomes a young adult and qualitative progress may be visible in all areas of development, including physical changes. As that children lose their original form child, so do the eyes of young children. Not only are larger and heavier and stronger, but change their body proportions and secondary sexual characteristics develop. For men this includes the extension of the shoulders, enlargement device genitals, and hair growth in different parts of the body. For women that includes the extension of the hips, breast development and pubic and axillary hair growth. Both sexes, of course, acquire the ability to reproduce.
Teenagers develop a much more autonomy, which explains why the theoretical of psychoanalysis to refer to adolescence as a second individuation. The first individuation in child hood, when children come to understand their separation parents of base (Dehart et al, 2004). In adolescence, the process of individuation is pushed much further. Now young people come to understand their feelings Inland parents can not even do not know. Along with this individuation is that parents deidentification (Dehart et al, 2004). Adolescents are moving toward its own ideals, goals and values, their unique characters. They are establishing a sense of personal identity, knowledge of which are separated from their parents and what its place in the world.
Most adolescents do not receive any information on reproduction or birth parents. It was established that the level discussion about sexuality between children and their parents is based on the quality of the relationship they have with them (Papini, et al, 1998) and their level of autonomy-esteem and individuation (and Papini, 1998). This last point suggests that young adolescents in particular, can not get their sexual problems with their parents because they still are in the early stages of the process of individuation. For this reason, they tend to rely on other sources of information about their sexuality.
Obscenity and sexual behavior
There is a widespread belief that a causal link between emissions have increased material obscene and growth rates of juvenile delinquency. Observations show that most children enjoy watching television early in the primary because of fears parents about their effects. For preschoolers, the modern American television now fulfills the role that the grandfather, they say made in a less hectic time —- Fun of a baby-sitter. The children who watch television an average two or three hours per day (Himmelweit et al, 1958). Many even consider the evening programs. Nielsen ratings show that an audience of 100-10 h, eight teenagers and six children, as late as 23:30, Five adolescents, and their three children are still in public (The New York Times, 1960) Other media are pale in importance compared with television. Radio as a source of entertainment has been largely supplanted by the new medium, it is in places where TV can not get to listen to the radio is very common. Only comic books begin to compete with television for the best interests of the child. A research team found that 83 percent of children in the sample, less than 11 years and 50 percent of those aged between 11 and 17 years, read more than two comics a week (Lazarsfeld et al 1948-9).
Religion and adult entertainment
A key feature of adult entertainment is rare nudity and dressing and the two traits can be used interchangeably to describe entertainment for adults as shown by the media. He has eaten deep into the fabric of modern society and represents a common way of life of most teenagers. pornography itself connote any material depicts or describes the human body or sexual conduct in a way that arouses feelings Sex. It is distributed through many media including magazines, books, television, movies, music and Internet. It is also harmful in mind that the snuff, alcohol and drugs to the body
In the recent past, relaxation was used in clothing obviously did not fire like today's experience, especially for girls in Nigeria. The sacredness of good dressing has always adhered few years. So far, dressings has regarded as a moral standard socio-cultural and natural you do not need instructions or direction before it is adopted by all men and women. It is normal for girls to dress in a way that properly represents the dignity and respect for womanhood. Today's event was canceled and replaced by usual means of clearly Obscene nudity and nudity. Although the phenomenon was seen coming from a single culture or new cultural imposition of the Western world, it is surprising that it is too common and show "Reserved places called" concern. Furthermore, the fact that the corresponding category falls within specific age groups and especially the younger girls young adolescent development are concerns you might have concrete effects on the future development of these groups and may damage a missile in the lives of teens who are more vulnerable group.
Religiously, the clothes should be considered as an invitation to virtue rather than an incentive sin. It is therefore surprising to see the different things around the world today. The purpose of clothing is lost in society today, and the apparent overlap in performance past has permeated the nooks and crannies of the religious centers, especially the church. But while some clergy and religious houses in this gesture, this trend is more Punishment for omission or commission, and is now looking to be almost commonplace in parts of the human body system, dressing habits, adults and some adolescents.
The traditional principle of central perspective on sexuality was Christian chastity. This leads to the morality of sexual abstinence before marriage, relationship boy-girl sound and value of virginity. However, the observed permissiveness without control in relation to the principle "of promiscuity in widely referred calls of concern, which was, inter alia, the prevention of ordinary observers in the classification of the churches, sexuality is for health to combat healthy sexuality.
Pornography
A world of difference between pornography and obscenity, irrespective of the form and manner that are used interchangeably. While pornography is to movies, photos, magazines, etc. that are or contain sexual activities or information with the intention of making people sexually excited, obscenity refers to criminal acts and pornography conditioned by language (Macmillan English Dictionary, 2006). According to the Encyclopedia of ethics, pornography is defined as "sexually explicit representation of people, words or images, created with the main objective of the proximity, and reasonable hope, to provoke sexual arousal significantly from the consumers of these materials. (VanDeBeer 1992 991). However, although illegal, erotic arousal caused can not easily determine the place transform over time and manifest themselves in a sexual harm. This therefore calls for serious concern, because eventually grow up to be a social problem that portends a great danger to traffic economy like Nigeria.
Question how pornography affects behavior and attitudes of the man was a source of controversy and public concern. vehement opposition to pornography are based the fact that it promotes immorality, violence and sex negative attitudes towards women, despite the support it has won the harmless diversion can be used to relieve tension adult sex. In 1986, U.S. Attorney General's Commission on Pornography concluded that violent pornography "A relationship of causality with the antisocial acts of sexual violence and degrading pornography "has causal link 'to violence sexual assault, and negative attitudes as the myth that women enjoy the rape. Studies report that the men who have seen movies that were violent and sexually explicit recorded levels higher aggression, followed by those who were sexually explicit but non-violent movies. men recorded the highest level of aggression after view pornography shows women as sexually aroused by the violence perpetrated against them. According to U.S. researchers Edward Donnerstein and Daniel Lenz Steven Penrod, "It is this unique feature of pornography violent presentation of the idea that women are sexual violence, raises it plays an important role in the production of the effects of violent pornography. "However, studies have shown little correlation between the purely non-violent erotic films and violence or aggression against women (Downs, 2007).
Culture theory
theory culture suggested that the frequent display increases of the probability of adoption of these values and beliefs expressed modify the actual behavior (Brown, 1993 Brown, 1995; Gerbner, et al, 1986.) When applied to television consumption among adolescents, this implies that the highest rates of hearing could bring major changes in values, beliefs and behaviors that result. In this context, greater exposure to sexual content may lead to greater acceptance of gender stereotypes (Walsh-Childers, et al, 1993). However, other evidence suggests that exposure to media content is not equivalent to paying attention to the content (Ward and Rivadeneyra, 1999), especially in an adolescent population where the use of multiple media are joint events with television background other activities such as homework or eating. However, Grube and Wallack (1994) assumed the level of attention and emotional response to television advertising due to alcohol may mediate the influence of a message and the degree of identification with the communicator.
The theory supports the hypothesis that the constant exposure of young people with entertainment pornography for adults and eventually leading to the adoption of such practices and cultivate habits. This may lead to minor crimes of vice, such as violation, masturbation, prostitution and so forth. It therefore follows the theory that adult entertainment (Who is also for adults) can have adverse effects on the sexual behavior of young adolescents. As such, the fun is not intended for consumption by persons of their age. In addition, a previous study and Brumer Healy concluded that criminals were more frequent among moviegoers that others have not (and Healy 1936) a finding which was confirmed also by Glueck (Glueck and Glueck, 1950). It is not unlikely that they have established a causal link between watching movies and crime Youth, we may assume that a person who goes to movies more often, would probably have more calls on non-delinquent children for interesting articles.
Research Design
Survey research technique was used in the study conducted in Lagos State of Nigeria and the study population consists of adolescents who are age 12 to 24. Both sexes were included to identify the different gender perspectives on the subject and provide an opportunity to assess the influence of the variable in all categories of adolescents.
Even if a technique systematic sampling was used in the selection of respondents who were adolescents in the study area, the choice of areas of study is very subjective. The prevalence constant supply of electricity and other social services are considered as basic determinants of media access to view or read the documents related to entertainment adult. Thus, the Ikeja district resident (GRA), a part of Oshodi and Yaba were elected. In this area, simple random sampling method and care primary health care (PHC) house numbering guided the selection of respondents who were asked about the approach of face to face. Only 10 houses have been Selected in each of the four selected census areas in each district. In total, 114 questionnaires were processed in the 120 respondents through well-structured questionnaires. Two separate discussion groups (FGD) were held in the area to get more results and the confirmation of interview results
Data Analysis
Distribution data were used to assess socio-demographic and association between variables identified interdependent and indulgence of adult entertainment. The data were analyzed with SPSS. The frequency distribution, cross-tabulations and techniques were used regression and the empirical results presented in tabular form. The hypotheses were tested using chi square (X2) analysis method, significance level 5%, and the degrees of freedom. All tables are attached to this document.
Results and discussion
This section focuses on the discussion of the results of data analysis. Many tests also cons- have been identified as factors responsible to motivate adolescents to participate in adult entertainment.
The demographic characteristics of respondents
Nigeria sex ratio has been deliberately used in the allocation of quotas for both sexes and men over 51 years, 63 women were selected as sample of our total. The study revealed that an overwhelming proportion (72%) of respondent's parents live together at the time of the survey (82%), while about 10% of all households were divorced (Table 1). This implies that most respondents consider themselves capable stable housing to provide information about sexuality. The level of respect within the family is below the average (32%), approximately 11% is to distant parents, while almost 48% held close ties with parents only by economic necessity. The "Father" Son, "Report" is much lower average in the study area. This may be influenced by the nature of working in the environment in which many parents must leave home early and return late at night. This situation does not seem conducive to an intimate relationship or parental care, except holidays. also the study area belong to upper social classes, when trust most child care at the hands of the nurse, the daughter of the house / Child or in some cases, grandmothers.
Communication is relatively sexuality absent in Nigeria or perhaps especially below expectations among those studied. It is expected that more educated parents would always be able to communicate adequately with their children on a topic but the study found the opposite. Only one quarter of respondents had received sex information from their parents. Approximately the same number (25%) it continuously, whereas only 28% had never discussed with their parents (Table 1). Among those who have received enlightenment, only 14.9% of All reviewers are free to discuss any sensitive issue at home with their parents. Most respondents are not authorized or have the freedom to discuss issues sex with them or stay with their parents. However, approximately 48 (ie 42, 1%) of respondents are currently in an intimate sexual relationship. Around of 18 (15.8%) experienced a broken relationship with his tender age (Table 1).
Young people media and entertainment for adults
Despite the lack of information on sexuality most households, many parents have consented (license per impression) sex between boys and girls and other girls and boys respectively. This is the father who, directly or indirectly passed their social relationships children and other children. About 35,1% of respondents answered "yes" to the question: Do you educate parents about their relationship with her boyfriend (s) friend (s)? About 11% never dare to let their parents know of the relationship of this kind (Table 2).
This study shows that nearly 57.9% watch TV for about 2-5 hours per day, followed by 28.9% for observers 6-8 hours, while only 7.9% said they watch TV for a maximum 9 and 12 hours per day. Others who watch over this time have been completely ignored in their subject. This result is consistent with U.S. experience, showing a teenager average to watch television three hours of television per day and most events are contained high doses of sexual content, ranging from touching, kissing, jokes, suggestions and discussions on sexual activity and representations of relationships (Collins et al, 2004). Almost all respondents have Internet access and facility approximately 84.2% for surfing on average 5.2 hours per day (Table 2). Although most do not want to do in the presence of their parents, about the 26% would not mind, even while browsing the parent is present.
The exposure to adult entertainment and sexual behavior
Although there are various ways in which adolescents are exposed to them, the power Television is the most common as confirmed by the study. Over 75% of the session on television. About 65% of entering into contact with pornography through video through print media and the Internet offers forty% and 35% of pornography sample, respectively, confirming the widespread that the majority of adolescents exposed to view or adult entertainment via television and movies. About two thirds of respondents already had sex and almost half of that figure (48.8%) had exposure to adult entertainment and about 51.2% had not (table 3). The report also shows that October 1 1932 respondents who have had sex said they never were exposed to all adult entertainment.
Teens opinion about adult entertainment
Table 4 shows that 45.6% of respondents agreed that the instinct adult entertainment ginger sex while 20.4% of respondents were in total disagreement. about 0.9% can not decide alone 28.1% agree that custom may influence sexual desire. In general, respondents in 82 of a total of 114 respondents admitted to listen or enjoy entertainment for adults could affect adolescent sexuality.
Three assumptions were made including: (1) adult entertainment has a negative effect on sexuality of adolescents (2) the lifestyle to encourage teen parents to go for adult entertainment and (3) that sex education can serve as a substitute for adult entertainment sexual life of adolescents. The results are shown in Table 5, 6 and 7, respectively. These were analyzed by statistical method of Chi-square (X2). This This figure was calculated using SPSS.
The proposed adult entertainment can have a negative effect on adolescent sexual behavior has been confirmed (Table 5). A 5% level of significance, X2 chip is much smaller than the X2 calluses (100.56). We can therefore say to the observation of Walsh-Childers and Brown (1993) more that the exhibition will conclude with the adoption and the manifestation of these illicit sexual behavior. A child who is exposed to sexual content tend to behave on stage, he / she consulted.
Table 5 shows that the style of parenting encourages teens to get into entertainment Nigeria adults (X2 = 29.86 Cal.) This conclusion is confirmed by Tschann & Adler (1997) who observed that in some homes, sexual matters are shrouded in secrecy and discussed sexual problems are rare or absent altogether. Many teenagers simply feel comfortable discussing their sexuality and most of them do not receive information about reproduction or contraception parents. But the likelihood that adolescents talk with their parents depends on how the relationship between this time (Papini, Farmer, Clark, and Snell, 1998) and self-esteem and individuation. This means that teens do not put their sexual concerns parents because they are still in the early stages of the individuation process, and therefore rely on other sources. This confirms that sex education can serve as a substitute adult entertainment in the 5% significance level and X2 form (9.49) <Cal X2 (72.02), as shown in Table 5.
Religion and nudity
What no law in Nigeria endorses pornography and nudity is still a foreign custom or practice the cultural context of Nigeria as a whole. However, certain cultural rituals allow the exposure of a body part during the festival, including, but not absolute nudity as encouraged by the media today as watchful and religious organizations themselves. Naked permit is a matter of great concern for the well-intentioned moralists disciplined , dedicated especially because of how organisms show sanctioned by the free use of certain exposed body dressing in public places and even in holy places like churches or religious centers.
The position of silence of the church and the presence of a few dressed in the churches represent an endorsement rover dressing. In the FGD, some participants believed that pornography violates the command of God that says, "Do not commit adultery …… or do anything for him" (Dt 5:18; Exodus 20:14) and it is estimated that this may lead to other serious sins. members of the Church should avoid pornography in any form and should oppose its production, distribution and use.
Conclusion and recommendations
This study confirmed that most parents do not usually take their children to sex education and that children do not feel free to discuss sexuality issues with their parents, a significant gap in the family that adolescents are difficult to fill by any source available at any price. Among the interesting observations have shown in this study is that Many teens feel comfortable with parents looking for TV around, but are not always comfortable, browse the Internet with their parents or adults around them. Privacy is in most cases limited to watching television while the teen prefers to explore the privacy inherent in the internet (cyber cafe for example) and see what he / She wants.
Pornography is the most common form of entertainment for adults and adolescents are exposed to Nigeria shows and erotic dancing, prostitution, sex and stripping are not popular. Although the most common means by which access This is television, more children with adult entertainment in women. Many Young people can watch TV with your parents then do not want to see other media, while elderly parents or are around. Several agreed that it can look encouraged to have sexual experience and relationship. But while the study confirmed that adult entertainment can have adverse effects on behavior adolescent sexual, sexual education could serve as suitable substitutes for the entertainment of adults in the sex lives of adolescents.
Media mass communication and technological advances of the 21st century has played an important role in the dissemination of entertainment for adults and adolescents can easily obtain such information from the Internet or watching movies on television. The majority of adolescents in Nigeria are exposed to adult entertainment. It is clear however that the lack of adequate sex education at home by parents or guardians in schools by teachers is largely responsible for the desperate adventure of young people "Satisfy the missing link at all costs." This unmet need for home as it requires intervention from other sources, in most cases, generally satisfied by their peers, with recidivism. Applying the theory cultural: the adoption of values and beliefs and behavior expressed monitor deteriorate. This will cause them to experience what they have been exposed in the form of sex.
It is estimated, based on the results of this study, adolescent sexuality can be re-generated mold sustainable and responsible, knowledgeable, well-equipped future generation of adults in the mature and successful parents. The results here are for actions those directly involved in rehabilitation (where appropriate) the flashing image of a society that has virtually lost its moral values of good conduct in the field sexuality. It is therefore understood herein argued that the high rate of adult entertainment teens indulgence could be reduced by providing of proper sexual education Youth in open standard environments like schools, seminaries, religious houses, the syndrome rather than the current illegal campaign. agenda for sexuality / courses must be developed and integrated into the curricula of academic institutions, especially in secondary and tertiary education. High degree of closeness between parents and children (CPCs) should be a priority in every home, because it leads ultimately child please discuss sensitive issues such as the sexuality, with parents. restrictions should also be placed in the media by the government study, rigid censorship should be placed on coverage issues of sex. The media should be made to offer alternative forms of entertainment to educate youth at school age.
