feeder goldfish changing from silver to orange?
back when i had my oscar, i had about a dozen little feeder goldfish to feed him, unfortunatly, he got HITH really bad and was put to sleep. i had two feeder goldfish left, and threw them into my 125 gal from their 10 gal. in a little over a month, they grew from an inch to over 3 inches. when i bought them, one was a silver color, with no hint of orange, and the other one was a normal orange one. well, over the past 2 weeks or so, he has slowly been turning orange. his heard started lightning first, then the rest of him turned orange too. now the only thing on him that is still dark is a little gray around his lips and a light fringe on his tail, but even that is turning orange. i think that it is a female too, because the naturally orange one, which is smaller, is constantly harrassing and rubbing against her. i am not planning on keeping them much longer, but i was just curious about what could cause such a durastic change in color in such a short time. growing spurts, genetics?
my guess is it’s a mix of two things…
genetics (as many others have said). goldfish change colors sometimes.
health. you gave them a much better home, and real care (I assume you’re feeding them regularly and such lol, not just putting them in a large tank to let them slowly die). if you really want bright orange colors try feeding them an orange slice (tie it to a string and it will float ont he top). full of nutrients and goldifgsh love htem. once a or twice a month should be good.
