How I can remove strong odors from vintage clothing?
My aunt died a few months, and clean storage area, which found boxes and boxes of vintage clothing from the 1930s, 40s and 50s. There are clothes, dresses, shoes, handbags, underwear, gloves, aprons, scarves, hats … all are in perfect condition, but have that horrible smell to them. No BO, but an old smell, as they have been in storage for the past 70 years! They are beautiful, expensive clothes and deserve to be preserved and passed on to new homes. I want to sell, but how I can when they feel so horrible. The clothes were hung in the air for two months (in the garage) and always have bad smell. I tried to wash these items could be washed, but still … Suck! Fabreeze not work any more. There too many things to keep dry. How do I get the smell of those clothes. Ideas? I really want to sell and get better U.S. dollar, but how I can when they feel so bad!
Charcoal, cat litter and baking soda to absorb all odors. You can try encapsulation of objects in a plastic container with a fairly large quantity of one of the elements.
