please help …i need something a little more reasonable then the ones for $300 at the above website
(i like the old fashioned styled ones a lot)
THANKX
Hate to tell you this … but $300 is pretty reasonable for “the real thing.”
The best corsets are custom-made to your measurements — this, of course, adds to the price.
Materials for corsets aren’t cheap: a good corset has two layers of heavy-duty, tight-weave cotton fabric to keep the bones from bursting through. That is in addition to the fashion fabric cover and the trim. Corsets also contain boning, a large number of grommets, and sometimes a busk. Those add to the materials cost, especially if high-quality boning is used.
Also there is a lot of labor involved in the construction of a corset. In part, this is because there are more layers. Also, the boning and the grommets add a lot of work. Much of the sewing on corsets has to be done by hand — machines just can’t do it.
I really applaud your choice in fashion; but you aren’t going to find a corset that is both inexpensive and high-quality. So, if you do buy a cheap corset, you’ll probably regret it. It won’t fit right, won’t look right, probably won’t be as comfortable, and won’t hold up to wear very well. If you want to “suck it in,” you will need a custom corset — they give much better control over your figure.
I would advise you to just buy the best corset that you can afford. This might mean buying one corset instead of more than one, or it might involve saving up your money. But you will be able to get exactly what you want, and you won’t regret the purchase.
If you do decide to buy a custom corset, send me an email, and I can put you in touch with an excellent corsetmaker, who can make something custom to your exact specifications.
Good luck wherever you decide to purchase your corset!

History of Corsets $73.28 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. A corset is a garment that girds the torso and shapes it according to the fashionable silhouette of the day. Most often it has been used for cinching the waist and supporting the breasts. Some women tended to wear corsets tighter than necessary and buy corsets with smaller waists, but most women, although they purchased an 18 or 20 inch waisted corset left a gap at the back closure to accommodate a more realistic 2226 inch waist measurements. On average that would mean a corset reduced the figure by only an inch or two at most. In fact, like today, in order to achieve the hourglass figure, many women took to adding volume to their bustlines to increase the ratio of bust to waist. Also, the full skirts, crinolines and bustles of the 19th century added to the width of the hips to make the waist appear slimmer.
