Burlesque Dancing
I’d like to be a burlesque dancer. What dance training should I have “under my belt” (pun totally intended)?
I’ve years of acting and creative movement experience. I’d like to hone these skills (and add other skills) so that I can market myself as a classic burlesque dancer. What dance classes should I take? Any other classes? I’m interested in hearing from dancers (from classically trained to the strippers). Thnx.
Old Time Burlesque is not quite the same as todays Burlesque so it depends on exactly what you want to accomplish. Old time concentrated on mind imagery than actual bumping and grinding. Todays Burlesque combines both the image and physical. There are new classes out there like learning to work the “pole”, lap dance, and stripping. If you want to market yourself as a classic burlesque dancer than also take a class on stage presence.
